Ever remember seeing ads for High Times Records? We do. And we were like what the hell? They're putting out wax?

High Times Records didn't seem to last very long. The marketplace was confident in skunk advice from the staff over at HT, but few bought the idea that the mag was staffed by a bunch of audiophiles.

About a year after the High Times Records push stopped, a new label called Nature Sounds sprang up. With many of the same artists that were previously working with High Times. This is where Devin Horwitz aka Dev-1 comes in. He's the man that once ran the High Times project and now owns and runs Nature Sounds. NS is the label currently releasing all the underground-esque Wu-Tang material as well as a number of MF Doom's Special Herbs beat tapes and a couple of Masta Killa albums.

FCR: Tell us one thing that really inspired you to get involved in Hip Hop.
DH: Gil Scott Heron "The Revolution Won't Be Televised." I stumbled across a 45 of this song when I was around 14. I was  already an avid fan of hip hop but this is the song where the concept  of sampling really clicked and actually made me want to be a producer.

FCR: Ever hummed in tune with a vaccuum?
DH: Not that I can recall but I did actually try to sample a vaccuum for  a beat once. I dont think it worked out very well.

FCR: Something trivial you regret doing.
DH: Selling my baseball card collection.

FCR: Last album you bought and really liked.
DH: Al Green "Full of Fire"

FCR: A song you released and love...you still pop it in and feel  proud Nature Sounds put it out.
DH: Thats a tuff one. Maybe no said date by Masta Killa.

FCR: A drunk story you kind of half remember.
DH: Im not much of a drinker these days, but as a kid, in 1990, me and 4  friends were drinking 40's of St. Ides in the back of a friend's truck in some shady parking lot in D.C. We were supposed to be going to a De La Soul concert at the old 9:30 club. We never made it to the show, I dont quite remember why, but the next thing I do remember was  throwing up in the bathroom of a nearby restuarant called Silver Diner. I must have been in there a while cause when I got back someone had eaten my food.

FCR: Most interesting artist you've worked with...why?
DH: Wow, thats tough. They're all interesting in their own way. MF DOOM is quite a fascinating dude, So is R.A. the Rugged Man but in an entirely different way.

FCR: Something you remember being really hyped up and you got excited for but ultimately it let you down.
DH: Main Source "The Science" album. It was supposed to be the follow up  to Breaking Atoms. Not that album they put out after Large Pro was replaced by Mikey D but the true Main Source album. Damn I devoted  atleast  a year of my life waiting for that album. I was such a die hard fan it hurt, then of course I waited another several years for the Extra P solo album and that got shelved too. Damn I would pay $100 for that album if it evens exists.
