Discolobos Spotted in Real Literature
special report by Braz
I was working in NYC around the summer of '05. After work one day I swung into the Union Square Barnes & Noble. This place is a massive triple decker store. It's the Macy's of books in New York. I caught the escalator to the 2nd floor where a display of graffiti books caught my attention. One of them, I NY, said to me, "Hey, check me out."
I NY is a series of photographs of NYC street art. As I rifled through the pages, something near the middle of the book caught my eye. I thumbed backward to find the exact page. There it was. A photograph of a Discolobos sticker on the side of a vending machine, printed in a real book. A book I just happened to pick up and look through for no real reason whatsoever.
At one point in history our homey Lowkey was an avid sticker producer and applier in the NY Metropolitan area. He was throwing thousands of the things up just for the hell of it. This particular sticker was one of the most popular we printed, for obvious reasons. |
