The King of Techno DVD

While the title King of Techno is a bit over the top, it by no means belittles Bruce Haack's work as a musician or a weird dude. Haack was born in Canada in the 30's. A naturally talented musician, he moved to NYC to attend the Julliard School of Music and pursue a career as a professional musician.

Bruce embodied Sumthin' Different! He made his own synthesizer-based instruments, always pushed boundaries and was always down to experiment with a new bugged out style. Early on, Bruce found moderate success as a session player for major labels and in writing music for commercials. Feeling creatively trapped, Bruce grew tired of the commercial and session work.

For a while he produced children's records with a trippy little babe known as Miss Nelson. Bruce and Miss Nelson recorded several albums, developed a small cult following and even appeared on the Mr. Roger's Show.

Still Bruce never felt totally fulfilled creating children's music. For a man who would go on to record Electric Lucifer parts 1 & 2, a cookie cutter kids show and a fake smile are not going to cut it. Towards the end of his career/life, Bruce drank heavily and his drug use rose. He was depressed and at times angry in not finding a certain point of success, which would allow him a comfortable working lifestyle.

Bruce Haack died at the age of 57 of heart failure. He left a handful of great albums with us. We highly recommend tracking down your own copy of Electric Lucifer, which Columbia has reissued. The kid stuff is hit or miss. See more of the artwork.
